Agrisolutions Opens Rock Island Plant

After over a decade in Milan, Agrisolutions has a new home. On Thursday, the agricultural manufacturing company opened its 110,000 square foot plant in southwest Rock Island, which is almost four times larger than its previous space.

One of Rock Island's busiest streets is ready for reconstruction this spring. The city will host an informational meeting Thursday, March 20th about the 38th Street project.

Rock Island aldermen may ask the county board and Public Building Commission to change their minds about demolishing the courthouse. Tonight's council agenda includes a resolution inviting the board and commission to work with Rock Island to privatize and redevelop the 120-year-old building. 

New Sculpture Installed in Longview Park

Quad City Arts has installed a new sculpture in Rock Island's Longview Park. "Chorus" by Jan Dean is the latest installment in Quad City Arts rotating sculpture program.

The Rock Island Preservation Society will hold a rally this weekend to save the county courthouse from being demolished. Organizers say "This Place Matters" will celebrate the historical significance of the over 100-year-old building. And it also hopes to show the Rock Island county board that the courthouse deserves to be renovated, not torn down.

The Star Block is Re-born

A historic but rundown block in downtown Rock Island has been transformed into loft apartments and commercial space. Thursday the Rock Island Economic Growth Corporation held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation of the Star Block - in the 18-hundred block of 2nd Avenue.

Rock Island Considers Providing Arsenal's Utilities

The City of Rock Island may provide utility services to the Arsenal Island starting next year. Monday night, the city council considered hiring an outside firm to help determine the cost of taking over some services for the Rock Island Arsenal. The report should be ready in the fall.
