Rock Island Resurfaces 38th

One of Rock Island's busiest streets is ready for reconstruction this spring. The city will host an informational meeting Thursday, March 20th about the 38th Street project.

It's scheduled to start next week, and go from 7th Avenue, all the way to Black Hawk Road and should be finished by late August. However, traffic will be maintained in both directions as the work progresses, but drivers should be careful and ready for some delays.

Interim Public Works Director Mike Bartels is optimistic about the project that he says the city has been preparing to do for years.

"We hope everybody sees what a great improvement this will be. We have other future projects in line," said Bartels. "Just bear with us over the summer, give us your patience."

Along with new asphalt, the contractor will also update sidewalks and curbs. The project will cost around 2.3 million dollars and is being funded by a federal grant.
