Davenport is preparing to take the next step in cleaning up its riverfront, and make it ready for future projects. Wednesday night, the city council held a public hearing on a plan to spend up to 236,000 dollars to demolish what's left of the Rhythm City casino site.

A fixture on the Davenport riverfront for many years will leave Friday. The Rhythm City casino boat is scheduled to depart around midday.

The new Rhythm City Casino opens its doors at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The original location on the downtown Davenport riverfront employed 250 people. The move to a land-based location at the interchange of I-80 and I-74 will add another 450 jobs.

The new Rhythm City Casino Resort in Davenport doesn’t open until Thursday, but employees, contractors and their families got a sneak peak Sunday.

The $110 million project near the interchange of I-80 and I-74 has been in the works for three and a half years and took one year to build. It has a 143-room hotel, 15-hundred seat event center, and nearly 34,000 feet of gaming space.

Twenty-five years ago, casino gambling opened in the Quad Cities - how has it helped or hurt this area, and what's in store for the next 25 ?

With the former Dock restaurant about to be demolished, and the casino boat leaving soon, what might happen to the downtown Davenport riverfront ? That's the question being considered by Mayor Bill Gluba, so he called in some outside help.

Three casinos, including Davenport's, are now part of one company. Thursday morning, the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved the consolidation of Rhythm City, Riverside, and Grand Falls casinos. Kehl Management developed casino and golf resorts in Riverside, near Iowa City, and in far northwestern Iowa near the South Dakota border.

Davenport Wins Court Case

A court battle over open records in Davenport has been won - by the city. In a decision, filed Thursday, District Court Judge Stuart Werling ruled city leaders did not withhold documents requested by Doctor Allen Diercks and Patricia Lane.
