Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker and leaders in Rock Island are urging people to make sure they're counted in the census.

Marianna Bacallao reports the governor came to the Martin Luther King Center on Friday to discuss the importance of the count to receive federal funding and to be represented in Congress.

Rock Island Mayor Mike Thoms says currently, a few neighborhoods in the city are undercounted. That would translate into a loss of around $20 million in federal funding.

Jerry Jones, Executive Director of Rock Island's Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center

Jerry Jones, Executive Director of the King center, says every person that fills out the census helps Rock Island and the community center serve people.

The mayor, governor, and other leaders are asking people who've already been counted to encourage their friends, families, and neighbors to be counted, too.

It only takes about five minutes online at My2020Census.gov, or call 844.330.2020. September 30th is the deadline.
