Quad City Census Response Reaches over 60%

United States Census Bureau

While over 60% of Illinois and Iowa residents have filled out the 2020 Census, there's still thousands who have not.

Marilyn Sanders from the Regional Census Bureau says she's trying to close that gap by mailing reminders and knocking on doors.

"Billions of dollars are distributed annually based on the Census data," she said. "It informs many decisions that are made in terms of where facilities are needed."

Roughly 80 percent of all responses from Clinton, Scott, and Rock Island Counties were submitted online.

Sanders says all information collected is private.

"The Census Bureau will never share your data. By law, we are mandated to protect the data that we collect. So, the census is safe, and the census is secure," she said. "Every employee is sworn for life. We take data security and privacy very seriously at the Census Bureau."

Anyone who hasn't responded yet will receive a postcard this week, and they can respond online at 2020census.gov or over the phone at 844-330-2020.

The deadline is Oct. 31.
