In the months since the COVID-19 vaccine rollout began in Illinois, people have had to race to secure an appointment. This morning, the state vaccination site in Milan had roughly 400 empty slots. That’s half of its daily total.
Chief Operating Officer Janet Hill says the new sign up system has been giving residents trouble. This week, the Rock Island County Health Department is administering the Pfizer vaccine, but some links were for Moderna.
Hill says at the current rate of vaccinations, she expects Illinois to move to Phase 1C soon. That would include retail and restaurant workers.
“So, we think that the vaccination pool will grow here very quickly, and then this site will be running at its maximum capacity which is about 7,000 shots a week.”
There will be an additional vaccination clinic for Rock Island residents—or Iowa residents who work in Rock Island—on Saturday at the TaxSlayer Center 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
