Dr. Kurt Andersen, Chief Medical Officer, says during the pandemic, Genesis decided to evaluate consolidation of emergency department services.
The health care system and many other providers have been struggling with staff shortages. And he says it was clear -- operating two emergency rooms less than two miles apart was not sustainable.

So, the emergency room at the hospital on West Central Park Avenue will be closed in a couple of months. And staff will be transferred to the hospital on East Rusholme, or the Bettendorf HealthPlex's new, Emergency Department. Rooms will be added to serve patients with behavioral and mental health issues.
Urgent care will continue to be available at Genesis West, and its emergency room will close on December 6th. The Bettendorf HealthPlex on 53rd Avenue will also begin offering emergency services.
The East Campus Emergency Department has been named Iowa's "Level Three Trauma Facility of the Year."
Genesis was created in 1994 when Davenport's two hospitals, Mercy and Saint Luke's, merged.
