East Moline School District

School children and the homeless will be the beneficiaries of some major grants. Wednesday, the Quad Cities Community Foundation awarded 100,000 dollar Transformation Grants - to the United Township and East Moline school districts, and to Humility Homes and Services.

Foundation Vice President Kelly Thompson says the two school districts will use their grant to begin the process to insure students have WIFI access in their homes.

After just two days, a school district in the Quad Cities has had to throw in the towel, showing how difficult it may be for Illinois students to return to school. 

Less than two weeks after the new academic year began, the East Moline schools will return to all, online classes, starting next week. In a letter to parents Monday, Superintendent Kristin Humphries made the announcement after the district had to send home four classrooms, including 29 students, late last week because of possible exposure to COVID-19.

Construction could begin soon for a new physical education facility at Moline High School. Monday night, the school board will hold a special meeting and consider awarding the project to Russell Construction for nearly 13 million dollars.

After about ten months of negotiations, and threats of a strike, teachers in the East Moline School District have a new contract. Thursday members of the East Moline Education Association ratified the tentative agreement that had been reached with the school board just one day earlier.

Teachers in East Moline and school district officials will try again to negotiate a contract. Today, the education association announced it requested another session with a federal mediator, and it's scheduled for next week.

Teachers in the East Moline School District are one step closer to leaving the classroom and setting up picket lines.

Monday afternoon, members of the East Moline Education Association approved an intent-to-strike, with more than a two-thirds majority voting "yes." That means union leaders can call a strike with ten days notice.
