It's been nearly a month since part of a Davenport apartment building collapsed, killing three people, injuring several, and displacing 100 households.

But President Biden and FEMA have not responded to Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds' request for a disaster declaration and federal assistance.

Reynolds sent the first letter asking for help on June 6th. Her office says there has been no response to it, so yesterday, she submitted a second request. It includes more data and information that Reynolds says, "clearly demonstrates that the severity of damage and loss caused by the structural collapse meets federal disaster assistance thresholds."

Federal assistance would help pay for debris removal, demolition, and response activities. The estimated cost listed in the first letter is $5-6 million.

Also today, the City of Davenport said The Davenport has now been "fully dismantled." Crews have started cleaning up the site and removing materials and debris from the demolished, six story building. The process will take several weeks.

When in the vicinity, drivers should look out for increased traffic, especially trucks coming and going from 4th Street and Harrison.
