A Scott County judge has ordered the City of Davenport to immediately stop demolition activity at the apartment building that collapsed nearly three weeks ago, killing three people and injuring others.

After a hearing today, the judge also ordered the city and its contractors to halt removal of any material or debris from the site.

Lexus and Quanishia Berry are suing the city and the owner of The Davenport.

The order in the case will be in effect until Tuesday night (6/20/23) at 8:30. The judge finds the plaintiffs' experts will be "allowed to visit the site to inspect, survey, photograph, and engage in any activity which does not destroy, alter, or taint evidence."

Davenport must also "develop a written protocol for inspection of the site" and it must "address preservation and inventory" of items "designated to be preserved."

The building has already been torn down, leaving a pile of debris and rubble at the site.
