Quad Cities COVID-19 Update on Hospitalizations & Cases

As the omicron variant of COVID-19 spreads, the numbers just keep getting higher.

Today, UnityPoint Health - Trinity reports it has 107 patients with the viral infection, up from 92 last week. And 28 are being treated in ICUs, two more than last week.

Genesis hospitals are taking care of 73 COVID-19 patients, thirteen more than last week, with eleven in ICU, the same as last week.

For Genesis Health System, last month (Dec. 2021) was the second-highest month for COVID-19 hospital admissions since the start of the pandemic. In December, a total of 356 patients were admitted with the coronavirus infecti0n. The highest number was in November, 2020 with 501 COVID-19 admissions.

Also today, Rock Island County reported one new death from COVID-19, and that brings the pandemic total to 427. The health department has also tallied 876 new cases, for an average of 307 during the past week, and it's up from 144 the week before. 102 county residents are now hospitalized, compared to 91 a week ago.

The state prison in East Moline now reports 21 staff and 131 inmates have tested positive, with similar numbers at the prison in Galesburg - 29 staff and 133 inmates.
