Virtual Commencements

Two more virtual commencements will be held this weekend - at Monmouth College and the University of Dubuque. Both will post ceremonies on their websites.

At the University of Dubuque, graduates were asked to upload Bitmojis that will accept their diplomas from a Bitmoji President Jeffrey Bullock inside a virtual campus recreation center. They also were invited to record a personal message that will be shared.

Separate virtual ceremonies will also be posted Saturday for seminary students, undergraduates, and graduate students. And they're invited to return to campus to participate in future commencements -  in December or next May.

Monmouth will post a ceremony on Sunday for its 163rd annual commencement, including the reading of each graduate's name by the president and dean. An on-campus ceremony is now scheduled for September 19th.

Last weekend, St. Ambrose and Western Illinois University held their virtual ceremonies.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
