Many Augustana athletes won't get to compete in collegiate sports this fall.

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin announced this morning its council has decided to postpone all fall sports competition and championships.

The vote was unanimous by the the CCIW Council of Presidents.

And it affects football, women’s volleyball, men's and women’s soccer, men's and women’s cross country, women’s golf, and women’s tennis.

I am absolutely heartbroken for our fall sports student-athletes and coaches, but considering the current state of the national public health situation, this announcement should not come as a complete surprise. ~ Mike Zapolski

The press release says the conference will study whether cross country, soccer, football, and women’s volleyball could compete in the spring.

And at this time, it plans to go ahead with spring sports as usual. Augustana Athletic Director, Mike Zapolski, says fall sports teams plan to practice and train with the hope of being able to play games and matches in the spring.

There will have to be written and approved safety plans to comply with college policies, public health guidelines and NCAA guidance.

Augustana hasn't postponed an entire season since World War II.
