A third person in the Quad Cities has died from COVID-19, and local health officials are warning young and middle aged adults to be careful.

The person who died is a Rock Island County woman in her 70s who was in the hospital.

Herb Trix has more.

On Wednesday, Ed Rivers, Director of the Scott County Health Department, reported eleven new confirmed cases bringing the total to 77. Of those cases, nearly one-third are 18 to 40 years old, and more than half are 41-to-60 years old. So young people are not immune to catching COVID-19.

Scott County residents who are 61 to 80 years old make up 14% of the confirmed cases, and those 81 and older only 4%.

The entire state of Iowa is reporting similar percentages. And Rivers is pleading with people of all ages to stay home, limit trips, and follow all the guidelines the health departments have been pushing for the past several weeks.

Also Wednesday, the Rock Island County Health Department reported 13 news cases, bringing the total confirmed cases to 73. So the total for the Quad Cities is now 150, with two deaths in Rock Island County and one in Scott County. And currently, thirteen people are in local hospitals with COVID-19.
