River Action looks to our river community to submit nominations for excellence in river projects, plans, or deserving grassroots leaders. When sending a candidate’s qualifications, keep it simple; we think you will like the format found on River Action’s website at riveraction.org/eddy awards. Simply explain why the person deserves recognition; tell us how the nominee moved against the current, as in an eddy, to achieve excellence on the Mississippi and its watershed. The award categories are:• Education, for innovative programs.• Design for new or renovated buildings with river access and views.• River Activity for recreation• Arts in performance, the written word, or fine arts• Stewardship in environmental enhancement• Revitalization in business or industry. At River Action, we believe these awards to be hugely important.• They inspire us to strive for similar achievements that contribute in meaningful ways.• They can foster a sense of community pride and encouragement for getting involved.• By highlighting big contributions, awards can attract new supporters.• They can highlight individuals who exemplify positive change, making them role models for others to emulate.• Lastly, by recognizing excellence, awards can create a culture of striving for high levels of innovation. Please submit your nomination by January 20, and plan to join us on April 30 at the Eddy Awards during River Action’s Fish & Fire event. You will be awed by the spirit of awardees, who, while working in their own professions, took it upon themselves to fix a broken system, or start a new project and become a catalyst for change. Stirring and uplifting, these stories offer a unique window into the best of human nature and accomplishment.
