Moline Mayoral Candidates Fight to Be on Ballot

Stephanie Acri and Bob Vogelbaugh say minor mistakes shouldn't prevent them from being on the ballot in next spring's mayoral election. This morning in front of Moline City Hall, the two candidates told reporters Mayor Scott Raes' challenges to their nominating petitions should be dismissed. He says Acri and Vogelbaugh failed to number each signature page, as required by state law.

Raes that he's trying to not have us on because we didn't realize we had to number. Each packet had ten pages, and at the very bottom, half of 'em you can't hardly see. And I never realized. I would have surely numbered my pages."Standing with Acri and Vogelbaugh, Moline 2nd Ward Alderman, Dave Parker, admitted his petition pages have the same mistake, but no one has challenged them. "I just don't think that's right. I think that Scott is trying to, Scott and actually Dick Potter, is trying to take that decision away from those folks in Moline to choose the person they feel is best able to lead them."

The city's electoral board meets Monday to hear the challenges.
