One month after the city administrator announced his retirement, Moline may hire a professional search firm to find a replacement. Tuesday night, alderman will consider hiring GovHR USA, based in Northbrook, Illinois, having used the same firm several times in the past when it was called the PAR Group.

GovHR is offering to do the search for 20,000 dollars, saying the typical search takes about three months to deliver a list of qualified candidates. Then the city would need up to an additional month to interview finalists, do background checks, and work out a contract with its top choice.

The new city administrator would replace Lew Steinbrecher who officially retired at the end of November after 12 years in Moline. No interim administrator has been appointed yet, but alderman Mike Waldron has been chosen to act as a "liaison" between the city council and staff.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
