Acri Running for Mayor of Moline

WVIK News

A member of the Moline City Council has decided to run for mayor. Tuesday Moline at-large alderman Stephanie Acri announced her candidacy at a reception at Milltown Coffee.

Acri is the president and owner of Evans Premium Manufacturing and says her experience as a business owner and training as an engineer make her well-qualified to be mayor.

"I am skilled at breaking down problems and coming up with solutions. That's what I do every day - I fix things and I also seek out opportunities."

During her five years on the city council, Acri says the most important thing she's done is to emphasize infrastructure.

"I see excellent roads and high quality water and a dependable sewer system as the foundation for all the other good things that will come from Moline. Those are the things that directly impact the residents' quality of life as well as attract new businesses and new investments."

Instead of waiting for a new mayor and council to take their seats next spring, Acri thinks the council should begin the search for a new city administrator right away, with the help of a professional recruiting firm.

If a primary is needed, it will be held in February, with the municipal election for Moline and other Illinois cities in April.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
