Scott Co. Groundbreaking for Patrol HQ
Next spring, deputies who serve rural Scott County will have a place to call home. This morning, Sheriff Dennis Conard and the board of supervisors broke ground on a new patrol headquarters in Eldridge.
Michelle O'Neill reports. it's a more central location.
Sheriff Conard says Conlon Construction of Dubuque will put up the 21,000-square-foot building on South 16th Avenue, just off Blackhawk Trail and Highway 61. $4.5 million will come out of Scott County's operating budget to pay for it, and a tax hike won't be necessary. But Conard says it took a long time to get to this point.
Twenty-nine Scott County deputies will be based at the new patrol division headquarters, which includes offices and a garage for 14 police cars and other vehicles. The Tremont location will continue to be used for evidence storage. The county auditor may convert part of it for a permanent polling place. Conard hopes the officers can move in next April.
