Big changes are coming to the Main Library in downtown Davenport. Friends of the Davenport Library have raised nearly $1.6 million to create individual study rooms, a new first floor public meeting room, a new teen space, and an expanded computer area.
Library Director Amy Groskopf says that these renovations have been four years in the making. But the pandemic may change how the final product looks—at least temporarily.
"We were going to purchase a couple sofas so people could relax and read, and we're just not going to do that right now because that's just not where we are at providing library services at this point."
Groskopf says the new children's area will make it harder for kids to wander off, the new computer area will have more outlets, and the new meeting room will be more accessible to the community.
Renovations are expected to begin this winter and take up to 3 months to complete.
