Moline's free COVID-19 testing center closes this weekend after 11 days and thousands of tests. The drive-up testing site is in the TaxSlayer Center parking lot, and will be in operation 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day until Sunday.
Janet Hill from the Rock Island County Health Department says the site tests around 200 people per day. Those tested can expect a phone call from an 888 area code 3-4 days later with the results of their test. But Hill says a negative result isn't forever.
"A result is a moment in time. You could leave the testing site and get exposed, and you would be contagious, but when the test results came back, it would say that you are negative. So, widespread testing and widespread contact tracing is how we're going to get on the other side of this."
The testing site is the second of its kind to pop up in the Quad Cities, and it likely won't be the last. Hill says this free testing service is funded by the state, and the Rock Island County Health Department will be asking the state for additional testing in the coming weeks.
