Unemployment rate up from last year

The unemployment rate hasn't changed much in the past few months, but is up from last year.

Last month, the jobless rate was 4.9 percent, compared to 3.4 percent the same month last year.

Government, hospitality, and educational-health services were the sectors with the most growth. Since October of last year, the Quad Cities gained 3,000 government workers.

There were roughly 2,400 job losses in professional business services over the year. Retail, manufacturing, and transportation warehousing utilities also recorded large employment declines.

The unemployment rate reflects the amount of people out of work, who are looking for a job.
