Quad Cities Unemployment Rate Rises Slightly

Unemployment in the Quad Cities rose to 4.6 percent last month. In August of last year, the jobless rate was 3.7 percent.

During the past year, the Quad Cities gained 1,800 leisure and hospitality jobs, 800 government jobs, and 400 in educational-health services.

The sectors with the biggest losses were professional business services, which had 1,200 lost jobs. There were also losses in retail and construction.

The unemployment rate reflects the amount of people out of work, who are looking for a job.
