In September, the jobless rate was 5%, compared to 3.4% the same month last year.
The area gained 2,500 nonfarm jobs in that period. Government, hospitality, and educational-health services were the sectors with the most growth.
There were roughly 1,300 job losses in professional business services, construction, information, and transportation warehousing utilities. Professional business services saw the largest drop, with 900 jobs lost.
The unemployment rate reflects the amount of people out of work, who are looking for a job.
