Despite a recent heatwave, last month's temperatures in Moline were an average of one degree cooler than normal. The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities also says August rainfall in Moline averaged 1.6 inches below normal.

For the whole summer, temperatures in Moline were near normal, while a lot less rain fell compared to summers over the last 30 years. Meteorologist Brian Pierce says the Quad Cities area is in a moderate drought, while the drought in parts of Iowa is severe to extreme.

From June through August, rainfall totalled 6.9 inches in Moline. That's 6.3 in. less than normal, or nearly half what Moline usually gets for those three months (13.2 in.).

On August 24th in Moline, the weather service reported a high temperature of 100, which tied a record set in 1936. But then yesterday, August 31st, the low temperature of 45 tied a record low first set in 1967.
