This Saturday, September 14, the Quad City Botanical Center is hosting its annual fall houseplant sale. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., visitors can shop from over a hundred types of plants with prices ranging from $8 to $25. The sale is free to attend.
The event proceeds will go towards the center’s education department and future exhibits. The education department teaches children and adults how to properly take care of plants.
Kate Mapes, assistant gardener and project manager, says the sale improves the center. "And in the last two years, three years, we've really done a lot of work in our outside beds. We added an animal garden. We've redone our front landscaping. We added a storybook garden to our children's garden. So we're really doing a lot of improvements and changes and our fundraiser money helps support all of that so that the public has a fun and engaging place to come visit."
This year, the sale has added more registers and an outdoor portion. The sale has 2,500 plants to choose from.
The Botanical Center also runs a plant adoption service. People can put up their plants for adoption for a small fee and the center will rehome them.
