Officials say officer-involved shooting of East Moline man is justified

The officer-involved shooting of Eugene Mewes is justified. That's according to an opinion released Friday evening by Rock Island County State's Attorney Dora Villarreal.

In the opinion, Villarreal says the East Moline man posed a threat to Lt. Dustin Edkin and Officer Garrett Kistner.

Last Month, Mewes pointed a gun at the two East Moline officers and ignored commands to drop the weapon.

He died from four gunshot wounds on May 20 at a hospital in Peoria.
