View of Mighty Mississippi a Feature in Final Leg of RAGBRAI

On Saturday, tens of thousands of bicycle riders will pass through Muscatine, which is a "meet-up" town for the 50th annual ride. And then they'll only have 27 miles to go.

City spokesman, Kevin Jenison, says six times in the past, Muscatine has been where the ride ended. Local watermelon on ice will be waiting for riders this year. That's because Muscatine's RAGBRAI theme is "One in a MeLon." (The capital "L" is for the 50th ride.)

Not only can participants enjoy views of the river during the last leg of the trip, Jenison says they can also "Double-Dip in the Mississip." Riders traditionally dip their front tires in the Mississippi at the end of RAGBRAI. But this year, they can do it in both Muscatine and Davenport.

Muscatine's RAGBRAI activities run Thursday through Saturday featuring bands affiliated with the "Almost Friday Fest."

Mississippi Drive and several intersections in Muscatine will be closed Saturday while riders are gathering at Riverside Park, starting around 8 am. And it's a good idea for residents who live along the route to park their cars on side streets. More information is HERE.

The last day of RAGBRAI -- the Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa -- will begin in Coralville, pass through Muscatine, and end in Davenport on Saturday, the same day as the Quad-City Times Bix 7 Road Race.
