This Year's RAGBRAI Will Include Muscatine

Muscatine has just learned it will be included in the route for this year's RAGBRAI. During the last day of the ride in July, riders will travel from Corralville to Davenport, and pass through Muscatine.

Greg Harper, from Harper's Cycle and Fitness in Muscatine, has ridden and repaired bikes for RAGBRAI each year since it started.

"At the announcement I had initial disappointment that we wasn't an ending town, and I had disappointment that we wasn't an overnight town, a Friday night town. So having them announce that Muscatine is a pass through town brought joy to me."

Each year, the beginning and ending locations are announced in January, along with where riders will sleep each night. But the "pass through towns" aren't announced until now.

"And I think it's a great opportunity for Muscatine, for the cyclists to see Muscatine, so that maybe next year, or any year or two, RAGBRAI might end in Muscatine."

Harper says riders will come into Muscatine on Highway 70, to Riverside Park, then ride along Highway 22 for 27 miles to Davenport.

He's not sure how many will ride in this year's RAGBRAI, but it could be anywhere between 20,000 and 30,000.
