Scott County Recorder Rita Vargas (L) and Craig Cooper (R) were in attendance this morning to observe the final machine recount of absentee ballots.

And the results in the Iowa 81st House District show Democrat Craig Cooper with the most votes, changing the results reported on election night.

Scott County Auditor Kerri Tompkins has announced the final recount of absentee ballots from the November 8th election. And the results appear to change the outcome in the 81st House District contest but not the county recorder's race.

The updated results in the 81st House race now show Democrat Craig Cooper with 5,093 votes, just six more than Republican Luana Stoltenberg (5,087). The day after the election, Stoltenberg was reported to have 29 more votes than Cooper.

And the updated returns show incumbent Democrat Rita Vargs will remain in office. She got just over 31,000 votes, 173 more than Republican Michele Darland.

The Scott County canvass of votes is now set for Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock.
