The Illinois Department of Employment Security reports over the past year, the September jobless rate decreased 2.6 percentage points to 4.1%. That's similar to the year-over-year drop in August.
Spokesman Tom Austin says last month, there were 3,200 more jobs compared to a year ago. And the IDES press release says, "
The Professional-Business Services (-200) sector recorded the largest employment declines compared to one year ago. The Manufacturing (+1,300) and Construction (+1,200) sectors reported the largest payroll gains."
Austin says the job market is tight all over the country for a variety of reasons, including the pandemic and a lack of child care services.
In the Quad Cities area, the last time the September jobless rate was equal to or lower than 4.1% was two years ago (Sept. 2019), when it was 3.8%.
