Six months after fire closed a popular Quad Cities restaurant, it's re-opened. A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday in Davenport for Lunardi's Italian Restaurant.

Salvation Army

A long-time volunteer for the Salvation Army has died. 93-year-old Esther Rahenkamp, also known as "Captain Ray," volunteered every Christmas as part of the Salvation Army's Red Kettle Campaign.

Davenport Police Association

Davenport police officers will spend their weekend making Christmas a little brighter for children who are victims of abuse. Tomorrow and Sunday, officers will hold the annual Domestic Violence Toy Drive, at NorthPark Mall.

Two mayors and a choir will help the Salvation Army kickoff this year's Red Kettle campaign. The ceremony will be held at 6 pm at Northpark Mall. 

Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba and Rock Island Mayor Dennis Pauley will announce this year's goal. And they'll be joined by the Sunshine Show Choir and two children's groups. 

Traveling between the Quad Cities and Iowa City will be easier starting next week.  Currently River Bend Transit offers bus service from Davenport to Iowa City on Mondays, but beginning August 18, it will add Tuesdays through Fridays.

Police in Davenport are trying to figure out who slashed some car tires at Northpark Mall over the weekend. 

Two of the largest owners of shopping malls in the US will not get together after all. The Simon Property Group has called off its hostile take-over bid for the Macerich Company.
