QC Marathon Will Be Virtual

Another major race in the Quad Cities will be "virtual" this year because of the pandemic. On Friday organizers of the TBK Bank Quad Cities Marathon announced instead of holding the race on September 27th, runners have the whole month to run 26 miles, a half marathon, 5-k, 1-mile, or Kids Run.

Race Director Joe Moreno says there are several advantages - runners can sleep in, there are no lines, and they can choose to run a flat course.

"Go out there, run your race the way you want to, when you want to, and where you want to. Take advantage of this opportunity and hopefully we're back to normal next year."

And he hopes runners will remember they're raising money for two good causes - for the fight against prostate cancer and to buy shoes for local kids so they can take up running.

Anyone who's already registered for this year's Quad Cities Marathon can cancel, and wait until next year.

Last month, organizers of the Quad City Times Bix 7 also announced this year's race will be virtual, during the month of July.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
