In August of 2020, 26 year old Jeramie Shorter was shot outside of Weert's Funeral Home, where he was attending his son's funeral. He later died at a hospital.

Laster was arrested and charged the same day.

He will serve 10 years before he's eligible for parole, and is ordered to pay thousands in fines to Shorter's family.
