Last night, the city council approved his promotion to Fire Chief. He will succeed Steve Knorrek, who is set to retire on Friday after a 40-year career with the Bettendorf Fire Department.

Said started as a volunteer firefighter in 1992, before taking a professional position two years later. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2015, and became Assistant Fire Chief in 2019.

He will be officially sworn in on September 19th at a city council meeting.

Rachel graduated from Michigan State University's J-School and has a background in broadcast and environmental journalism. Before WVIK, she worked for WKAR Public Media, Great Lakes Now, and more. In her free time, she likes to cook, hike, and hang out with her cat.
