The 51-year-old Davenport man is accused of kidnapping and murdering 10-year-old Breasia Terrell in 2020. On Monday, Dinkins waived his right to a jury trial.

After ruling on pre-trial motions, Scott County District Judge Henry Latham heard the prosecution's opening statement.

Scott County Attorney Kelly Cunningham described the events that led up to the Davenport girl's disappearance. Dinkins is her younger brother's father, and she went with him for an overnight visit.

Cunningham gave the judge a lengthy summary of the evidence she'll present including:

  • Where Dinkins went and when on the morning she girl went missing,
  • Descriptions of key locations such as where he kept his R-V, the Clinton WalMart where he bought two bottles of bleach, the remote area where her body was found near DeWitt,
  • And that she had been shot.

Dinkins' attorney reserved the right to give his opening statement after the prosecution presents its case.
Testimony from witnesses began after a break. The trial may last three to four weeks.
