Rock Island's Plans for Sunset Marina

Rock Island is considering a plan to re-design Sunset Marina. After a feasibility study earlier this year, the city council has narrowed down its list of possible alternatives.

Public Works Director Mike Bartels says the most likely option will be to replace dock 400, give it a new roof, upgrade the electrical service, and dredge the marina.

"I think they liked the project as it was proposed. The items that were proposed and the plan are really the bare minimum that needs done to keep the marina in good condition, keep boaters at the marina."

Bartels says construction would likely begin in spring of next year.

"Some minor inconvenience for a big reward, I'll call it. They're gonna be happy to see work taking place, there hasn't been major improvements done down at that marina in well over two decades."

The Rock Island City Council will vote on the enginering and design of the project on May 22nd. It is projected to cost around $4 million.
