Salvation Army Provides Flood Clean-up Kits

The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities wants to help people affected by the Mississippi River flooding. Beginning today, "clean-up kits" are available.

Steve Garrington, head of Disaster Services, says people who have had flood water in their homes qualify for these kits.

"That would be the criteria. And if someone needs it, we would be glad to give it to them. It's for the people who are in the flooded area or who have flood water damage, even backup from the sewer, that sort of thing. But we're there for them."

The clean-up kit is a bucket containing sponges, masks, gloves, brooms, mops, and garbage bags.

"I'm sure other things will be needed as they come along, but that's a good starter for them. At least, what I would need if I had flood water in my garage, or in the basement, and I wanted to just get started before I brought in a professional to take care of it."

Garrington says if they run out of clean-up kits, more will be brought in from nearby Salvation Army locations. They can be picked up from the Davenport office on Kirkwood Avenue, or the Moline office on 5th Avenue.
