County Board Chair Ken Beck says one year ago the county hired a consultant to look at a possible take-over.
"The call volumes, the response times currently being seen with MEDIC, operational overview, the 911 answering and process impacts. And then what departments would be impacted if the county should move forward. My one question was 'is there anything that's a show-stopper,' and they said 'no.'"
Now, phase 2 of the study is underway, looking at how MEDIC EMS will become a county department, including finances and employment.
MEDIC currently has about 150 full- and part-time employees.
"Considering that the county is a little over 500, that's like about a 30 per cent increase in people. And so it impacts a lot of our HR and counting and so forth."
Originally he hoped MEDIC could officially become part of Scott County this summer, but now Beck says next January lst is more likely.
