A woman who was a teenager when she was convicted of murder wants to have her sentence reduced.

On Wednesday, Illinois' Third District Appellate Court will consider a request from Sarah Kolb, who was sentenced to 50 years for the 2005 murder of 16 year old Adrianne Reynolds.

At the time of the murder, Kolb was 16. She argues that the judge did not take her age into account, and other factors such as competence, and family background.

Last year, her request for a reduced sentence was rejected by a local judge. Now the Third District Appellate Court will consider if her original trial was fair and if the law was applied correctly.

The court is scheduled to hear the case Wednesday morning in Ottawa.

Now 34 years old, Kolb is being held at the Logan Correctional Center in Lincoln, Illinois.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
