ARPA Funds Crime Fighting Efforts in East Moline

East Moline police will soon have a new tool for crime prevention.

The city council has approved the purchase of license plate reader cameras for squad cars.

Monday night, the council decided to spend 64-thousand dollars with Flock Safety.

Police Chief Jeff Ramsey says these cameras are already being used in Silvis to help find stolen stolen vehicles and locate missing persons.

The first year cost will be covered by East Moline's ARPA funds, with the second year coming from the regular budget.

Currently, Chief Ramsey is in process of signing a contract with Flock Safety, and after two years it will be reevaluated to see if the city wants to continue.
