Daughter Saves Her Father's Life After He Suffers A Heart Attack

A Moline woman has saved her father's life after he collapsed following a run.

Erin Hammond and her father Joe, had just gotten back from a two mile run when he suffered a heart attack.

Erin, who became CPR certified just two months ago, began performing CPR on her dad while a 911 dispatcher gave her instructions.

Erin says she's glad she knew what to do. "I don't think he would have made it if not for that training."

Once the ambulance arrived, Joe Hammond was taken to UnityPoint Health - Trinity where he had a succesful quadruple bypass surgery. After ten days in the hospital, he's returned to his home in Moline, where he continues to recover.

Joe and his daughter have begun walking together, and he hopes to start running again some day. He hopes his story encourages others to become CPR certified, "because you never know when you'll need to use it."
