Iowa election officials will begin mailing out absentee ballots Monday, and it's the first day voters can go to their county auditor's offices or satellite locations to vote early in person.
Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate says as of Friday more than 632,000 voters have requested an absentee ballot. Democrats requested more than 335,000 ballots, Republicans requested nearly 187,000 and voters listing no party preference asked for about 108,000 ballots. County officials say those numbers are far ahead of previous elections.
In Scott County, Auditor Roxanna Moritz says more than 37,000 absentee ballots will be mailed Monday, and voters should start receiving their ballots in the mail later in the week.
This year the Auditor’s Office is using a new, smaller envelope for mailing absentee ballots and for voters to return their ballots. The new envelopes costs less money to produce and less money to mail.
Election Day is November 3rd.
