Virtual Business Celebrations

Disc Replay

Even though it can't hold its usual ribbon cutting ceremonies because of social distancing, the Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce still wants to celebrate when its members re-open and other milestones. So it's asking them to organize their own ceremonies, and post photos and short videos online.

Spokeswoman Erin Platt says it's a good way to advertise that they're open for business, and that it's safe for customers to come in.

"Even though we can't really be there with them due to social distancing, doing a virtual re-opening ribbon cutting and then sharing it on our social media platforms, is a way to still have that nod to the old days but then at the same time do it within the protocol that we have in place right now."

She says any pair of scissors will do, with ribbon or something similar, and be creative maybe even putting the ceremony to music.

Among the first chamber members to host a virtual re-opening ceremony were the Hilton Garden Inn in Bettendorf, and Disc Replay in Davenport

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
