Attorney Herb Schultz

A local lawyer with experience as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and private litigator is running for Rock Island County State's Attorney. This morning, Herb Schultz announced he wants to be the Democratic nominee.

More than 30 years ago, Schultz started his career working as an Assistant State's Attorney. He also served as an Assistant Attorney General and in private practice. Most recently, the Democrat from Milan has been busy as a criminal defense attorney. But he is also eager to advocate for victims of crime.

If elected, Schultz says he would work hard to improve Rock Island County's mental health and drug courts. He's also served on the boards of community groups, such as the Rock Island County Council on Addictions and Alternatives for the Older Adult.

Schultz is the third Democrat to enter the Rock Island County State's Attorney's race. Interim State's Attorney Dora Villarreal and current Assistant State's Attorney Calvin Dane are the other Democrats. The fourth candidate, Kathleen Bailey, is a Republican and former Assistant State's Attorney.

Officially, Michelle's title for 28 years was WVIK News Editor. She did everything there is to do in the newsroom and whatever was needed around the radio station. She also served as Acting News Director from September 2023 - January 2024.
