Birth to Five Illinois, a state-wide early childcare organization, is seeking partners to operate a 24/7 emergency nursery in Rock Island County.
Region 49 Council Manager Emily Cummings says the nursery is intended for parents without a support group.
“[S]omewhere, where parents can go to drop off their child in the case of an emergency, or if their mental health just isn't okay, and have three or four hours where they could go to the laundromat, or they could go grocery shopping, and then come back and pick up their child and be refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to go.”
Cummings says they have identified a location for the nursery but are still seeking community partners for financial assistance.
Cummings invites the public to their Action and Family Council meetings in May to get involved.
Birth to Five Illinois formed in 2021 when the state partnered with the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies to set up independent regions, with Rock Island County and part of Sherrard falling under Region 49.
