UPDATE 2:30 p.m. 02/28/25: Representative Eric Sorensen's office says at least six employees were fired from the Quad Cities' location.

Yesterday, Feb. 27th, more than 800 employees of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Weather Service were fired. The employees targeted are probationary workers, meaning new hires or those with years of service who recently received a promotion.

Illinois’ 17th District Congressman Eric Sorensen, who lives in Moline, released a statement stating that some employees at the Quad Cities National Weather Service office were involved in the mass firings.

In a follow-up email, Representative Sorensen’s office said at least six employees at the Quad Cities office were fired.
