Street Closing in Downtown Rock Island

One block of a busy street in downtown Rock Island will be closed, starting Wednesday.

Weather permitting a contractor will begin removing a deteriorated wall from the side of the US Bank building at the corner of 18th Street and 3rd Avenue. And that will require the closing of 3rd Avenue between 17th and 18th streets.

The block will be closed during business hours, from 7 am until 3:30 pm, for up to five days, with completion expected by next Wednesday, October 9th.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
