Deputy Involved Shooting

A Davenport man is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot by a Scott County Sheriff's deputy early Tuesday morning. The shooting followed a traffic stop about 1 am in Davenport, on North Brady Street near Interstate 80.

The Sheriff's Office says, quote, " the deputy was interacting with a subject during the course of traffic enforcement when a struggle ensued between the driver and the deputy. The incident escalated and resulted in shots being fired by the deputy.''

In an update from the Davenport Police Department, it says the deputy is Greg Hill, a 10 year veteran of the sheriff's department. The wounded man is 27 year old Robert Mitchell from Davenport.

The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave, and the investigation will be handled by the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and the Davenport Police Department.

A native of Detroit, Herb Trix began his radio career as a country-western disc jockey in Roswell, New Mexico (“KRSY, your superkicker in the Pecos Valley”), in 1978. After a stint at an oldies station in Topeka, Kansas (imagine getting paid to play “Louie Louie” and “Great Balls of Fire”), he wormed his way into news, first in Topeka, and then in Freeport Illinois.
