Construction on Illinois Highway 84 in Port Byron may give drivers headaches for nearly two months. The Illinois Department of Transportation says starting Monday, the road will be closed to through traffic from Polk Street to Lynn Street.
A crew will work on improving the pavement, culverts, and storm sewer. The project is expected to take seven weeks to complete.
The detour includes Barber Creek Road (71st Avenue), 256th Street, and Agnes Street (94th Avenue).
The Illinois DOT says access from IL Hwy. 84 to Port Byron's Main Street and business district will not be restricted. The highway is part of the Great River Road.
As always, drivers should slow down and use extreme caution while driving through all work zones.
